I first bought this striped drop-waist dress in spring 2012, and I’ve worn it many times — definitely more times than it’s been featured on the blog. That’s because I often wear it in the same way, with its self-belt and simple flats, as seen here. Patterned dresses have so much interest in and of themselves, so it doesn’t take much at all to dress-and-go.
I decided to mix things up this time to wear this dress out for a lunch with a friend and a casual work meeting. The dress is a bit blousy and loose, which I like for its comfy, casual feel. The main difference is that I changed the waistline of this drop-waist dress with a wide, stretchy belt. And I echoed the cognac tone of the belt with my cognac wedges.
Here’s a comparison of different ways I’ve worn this dress:
Belting the dress higher does shorten the length, as you can see above, but there’s room in the dress to do that as its natural length hits right at the knee.
