Another day, another outfit with my new red eShakti dress. This time, it’s a casual look that I wore on an outing with friends who were visiting Portland. Of course, we had to stop at Powell’s, Portland’s famous bookstore (it takes up an entire city block). I also happened to have a Powell’s gift card that I had won at a drawing at a recent librarian conference. Woot! 🙂
My first stop was the children’s section, where I scouted for old copies of Nancy Drew mystery stories. I didn’t find what I was looking for, but it was fun to look at the rows of old children’s classics.
For a casual variation with this red dress, I topped it with my darker denim jacket, which is my entry for Bri’s “Third Thursday Threads” challenge, with this month’s theme being “Must-Have for Summer.” My must-have is a denim jacket, as it is classic, goes with everything, and provides layering opportunities and warmth when it’s needed — especially as summer nights (and the shade) can still be quite chilly up here in the Pacific Northwest.
I then added neutral accessories with a putty-colored skinny belt, tan slip-ons, a canvas tote bag, and earrings made of old dictionary pages (!) and a bronze bee detail.
Details: Red cotton dress: eShakti, new / Denim jacket: Old Navy, gift-carded fall 2012 / Tan slip-ons: Grasshopper via DSW, this spring / Skinny belt: Came with dress, Macy’s, last fall / Tote bag: Gift from my husband, this winter / Earrings: Online jewelry store, old
A wall decoration in Powell’s, with photos hanging off Ikea curtain rods. A great idea for an art wall!
And here is what I eventually chose with the proceeds of my Powell’s gift card: Two books by one of my favorite authors, Robin McKinley; a “card catalog” set of notecards (I couldn’t resist!); and a wooden postcard in the shape of Oregon (which I thought would make a nice art piece to one of our own art walls at home).
