For this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) choice, Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey chose the amazing body of work of Dutch sculptor Peter Gentenaar. He creates floating paper sculptures made out of paper pulp and bamboo ribs.
There’s still time to participate in SIA, so send along your submissions to Salazar by tonight, and she will post a round-up shortly after on 14 Shades of Grey. And remember, you don’t need to be a blogger to participate — all are welcome!
Here again is a collage I made of some of his works, and you can see a collection of his works on this website.
I was inspired first by pleats, so my starting point was my coral pleated skirt. I then thought of my peplum vest top from the Phillip Lim Target collection last fall. The delicate print of the vest, along with the soft yet bright colors reminded me of the inspiration sculptures. I also chose my black wedges because of the swooping edge of the straps.
Details: Coral pleated skirt: Florence Adams, c/o giveaway, last spring / Floral peplum vest: Phillip Lim for Target, fall / White long-sleeved t-shirt: Nordstrom Rack, winter 2012 / Black strappy wedges: Dillard’s, old / Pearl drop earrings: Handmade by friend in Abu Dhabi, 2010 / Purple patent leather skinny belt: Fashion swap, fall 2012
And yes, twirling was in order! I love how it totally echoes the freeform shapes of the paper sculptures. 🙂
And for “Mix It Monday,” here are some other ways I’ve worn this coral pleated skirt:
Have a twirly Monday!
