Hi there, it’s time for this month’s “budgeting bloggers” post!
What I got at eShakti.com
I have been participating in eShakti product surveys and reviews for awhile, and I was excited to receive a $10 gift coupon a couple of months ago. I waited until the big Easter sale, when everything on the site was 30% off, and ordered this red jersey cotton dress. I have a grey eShakti dress similar to this design, and in the same fabric, so I know the fabric wears — and washes — well. I’ve also had a red dress on my shopping list for awhile, so it was a perfect (shopping) storm.
As you can see, I had it altered a bit, turning the cap sleeves into a sleeveless style. I appreciate that you can order the regular sizing on eShakti.com but still customize the neckline, sleeves, and/or hem for no extra charge. The color also was a little brighter shade of red in real life, which was actually a pleasant surprise.
- Red dress: eShakti, $31.97 (original price $59.95, 30% sale, used $10 gift coupon)
What I got at LOFT Outlet
Next, I stopped by a local LOFT outlet that’s near where I work, while they were having a 40% off everything sale. (This is also the FIRST time I’ve ever visited this outlet mall — how strong am I?!)
As you know, I’ve been on a maxidress hunt for awhile, and I scored with this navy & white tribal print maxidress. Sooooooo well-designed (more details in this post), and the fabric has a nice weight. With the savings, the price was closer to what you’d pay for a maxidress at Old Navy, but the quality is higher.
I have also had a navy cardigan on my shopping list for awhile (why have I NEVER owned a navy cardigan before?), so I snagged this 3/4-sleeve crew neck cardigan that was on clearance. The glazed texture of the navy buttons is a particularly nice detail.
- Navy cardigan: LOFT Outlet, $14.99 (original price $39.99, on clearance)
- Navy & white maxidress: LOFT Outlet, $41.00 (original price $69.99, 40% off sale)
What I got at Macy’s
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I recently went shopping for a pair of brown or cognac wedge sandals to replace an old pair of brown wedge sandals that just didn’t feel comfortable enough anymore. I had stockpiled multiple Macy’s coupons ($15 off coupon) and gift cards ($10 reward coupon + $9.30 left on another gift card), so off my husband and I went to Macy’s during the Memorial Day weekend sales.
Here’s a look at the final contenders I tried on, first up close and then how they looked on my feet:
I chose the fourth pair shown above, as it was the most comfortable — padded footpad galore! — and the platform wasn’t too high. (The heel is 3.5 inches, and the platform part in front is 1.75 inches, which leaves a 1.75-inch rise, which pretty much fits my own foot arch exactly.) I also liked the slight ’70s retro look and feel. Sam had picked out this pair for me to try on, so he was very pleased that I went with one of his choices. 🙂 (And if you’re interested in why I didn’t choose one of the other pairs, go on over to my Facebook post about it.) I also saved 70% off the original price!
- Brown wedge sandals: B.O.C./Born at Macy’s, $25.69 (original price $85, on sale for $59.99, used $34.30 total in gift cards and coupons)
I definitely felt better about shopping this month, as I was quite strategic about coupons as well as what I was looking for. It feels more personally satisfying to be “on the hunt” for something specific, or to replace a well-loved item in your closet. Impulse shopping can seem so hollow, even sometimes immediately after a purchase, but this kind of purposeful shopping has filled me with satisfaction every time I look at these items in my closet. 🙂
