Red lips

You might have noticed earlier this week, in this post, I was sporting a new red color. And it’s my first true red lipstick! I figured it was time, and there was a cosmetics sale at Fred Meyer, where I picked up three new items:

  • Wet n Wild Mega Last liquid lip color in “Cherry on Top”
  • Wet n Wild Color Icon eyeshadow trio in “Silent Treatment” (with easy-to-follow palettes for browbone, crease, and eyelid)
  • Seche Vite dry fast top coat nail polish (I’ve read so many great things about this quick-drying top coat!)

And here are some closeups of me wearing my new Wet n Wild lip color and eyeshadow.

I have to admit, I was a bit self-conscious wearing this bright red shade in public. It’s definitely something different for me! But I do like this shade of red, and I think it goes well with my pale coloring and dark hair. This liquid lip color is supposed to last up to 8 hours and have a built-in moisturizer. It certainly lasted through the day, but my lips did NOT feel that hydrated. I also felt I had to be very careful with applying the color and using the applicator wand. ‘Cause once that color is on, it is ON, y’all. (Also, FYI, a quick tip about taking off this megalasting color … it comes off much more easily if you apply petroleum jelly on your lips first.)

But it does feel a bit liberating to finally have my first true red lipstick. What do you think of this shade?

That’s a good point, Amy, and one I hadn’t thought about before. Maybe that’s why I’m a bit uncomfortable wearing bold lip colors, because I don’t tend to wear foundation. But there’s a little rebellious part of me, too, that kind of likes the idea of a clean, natural face with a bold lip. 😉

I love the red lip color on you. What beautiful, full lips you have. Would love to wear red, or even dark, lip color myself, but unfortunately, I have thin lips and a mean-looking downward cast to my mouth…not good to accentuate that!
And thanks for the very straightforward review of the product.

Thanks for your comments, Charlene! I always try to keep it real (and a bit light-hearted) around this here blog, so it feels good to get a thank you for giving an honest review. 🙂 I’ve been dipping my toes (or rather, lips?) into bolder lip colors, starting out with lip stains. And this definitely feels like a splash in the deep end!

The red color really does look good on you!! And I’m the same about feeling weird wearing bright lips in public – it’s like everyone can tell it’s strange for me, even though I know logically they don’t know that!
