Today I’m trying out my new black pencil skirt for the first time. And this really is the FIRST TIME I’ve ever had a black pencil skirt. I know. First-world problems, eh? After reading the reviews of this curvy, high-waisted pencil skirt on ModCloth, I took the plunge. And I’m sooooo glad I did. I felt absolutely fantastic wearing this skirt, which definitely fits my “long and lean” ideal. There are curved seams in the front and back, very figure-flattering for those of us with curvier bottom halves.
Paired with the cardigan and blouse, this outfit does feel like what one would put together for a “sexy librarian” kind of look, yes? Or perhaps a “sexy secretary” outfit? And yet it’s all covered up and professional. The sexiness is via the feminine silhouette.
Details: Teal green cardigan: August Silk via Macy’s, last winter / Black pencil skirt: ModCloth, new / Black tights: ?, old / Black ankle boots: Payless, last winter / Cream blouse: Kohl’s, gift-carded last month / Pearl-and-silver hoops: Gift from my husband, 2010
I also felt that I was channeling my friend and fellow librarian, Amy (seen here), as this pencil skirt-cardigan-tights-and-ankle boots combo is one of her favored silhouettes. And another friend and librarian, Kerry (seen here), remarked on how this outfit also brings out what she sees as one of my personal style trademarks: an unexpected mix and pop of colors. That compliment made me smile, both inside and out. 🙂
And here are some other ways I’ve worn this teal green cardigan, which is quite a versatile piece!
