Pattern-mixing play

So it’s another “Inspiration Monday” … on a Tuesday. 🙂 I wore this casual, pattern-mixing outfit this past weekend on our 17th anniversary! (Our regular anniversary is February 1, and our wedding anniversary is August 1. And yes, we still say “Happy Anniversary!” to each other the first day of each month. ♥ )

Inspiration:

This week’s style inspiration came from Jessica Alba.

Interpretation:

If you click on the the link to view Jessica Alba’s outfit, you’ll see that she has on bright red flats. And, yes, it was warm enough this winter day to wear flats without socks — as well as my new raincoat! The raincoat has a fun plaid lining, as seen below, so there was even MORE pattern-mixing play going on behind the scenes! 😉

By the way, the backdrop is a statue and fountain outside a local mall in Portland. We did some shopping in the morning (Macy’s gift certificates put to good use), lounged in the afternoon with our kitties (lazy good times), and went out for a special anniversary dinner at Mint (using more coupons!).

I like the photo below because it’s like I’m giving off a “secret agent” vibe. Plus, you can get a better view of the statue. It’s a really tall stack of coins on a pedestal, and there are quotes engraved on the coins. It’s kind of weird-looking, because from afar, it looks like a chopped-off sword. But it did make for a new and interesting photo location!

And for this week’s “Mix It Mondays,” here’s a look at other ways I’ve worn this thrifted black & white striped boatneck top:
