ModCloth: Uniquely Yours

I’m so excited that I asked to participate in the ModCloth “Uniquely You” campaign. I visit their site almost daily to look at the ModCloth blog, vote in their “Be the Buyer” gallery, and peruse the public Style Gallery and sometimes upload my own photos. (I was not paid for this post — I am a true ModCloth fan! They do an excellent job of building a community, and the customer item reviews are the best in the business.)

For this challenge, I was asked to style an outfit using the Diagonal Alley Coat in Black — love the Harry Potter reference! — as my starting point.

I love this coat — also available in plus sizes — and how you notice the shape first, and then up close, you appreciate the different textures and details like the seaming and the back vent. (And this coat is on 50% sale right now!) So that was my inspiration in choosing the other items to put together this look:  I went through my “loved items” list and looked for shapes first and then a mixture of textures and special details, such as:

  • The print on the dress is actually made up of dachshunds (!)
  • The red knit tights have eyelet embellishments
  • The deceptively simple black top has gorgeous lace sleeves and Peter Pan collar

A red and black color combo is always classic! How would you style this striking coat? Please leave a comment and let me know. 😀
