What’s in my bag?

I’ve always loved posts that provide an inside peek in bags and purses — even luggage. (It’s my love of organization, I’m sure.) So I’m taking the plunge myself and showing y’all what’s in my bag:

I am quite practical, so I was very excited this past holiday season to snag this “stocking stuffer” special from The Container Store, an “in.bag” handbag organizer (read online reviews online plus a similar organizer here). There were two versions of the “in.bag” available, one black with a patterned lining and one with a red lining. I chose the one with the red lining so it would be easier to spot inside my handbags.

This handbag organizer holds most of the everyday things I carry around, and it’s quite easy to move this from one purse to the next. And since most of my work purses are tote bags, this handbag insert is proving especially useful.

In addition to two TerraTints tinted lip balms, I also keep hair elastics, safety pins, and bobby pins in my lipstick case, which was a Christmas gift several years ago by a colleague in the UAE. (I keep my lip stains at home, featured here, and apply those in the morning. I use these TerraTints lip balms as touch-ups during the day.)

My mom gifted me this little metallic case a few years ago, a travel-size emergency kit full of useful items, like clear nail polish for pantyhose snags, a sewing kit, etc.

And what’s in my makeup bag? Not much makeup at all, except for some concealer. I debated on whether or not to keep the tampon in the shot, but hey, it’s real life. It’s practical to have one on hand, just in case. I keep a portable Tide stain stick in practically every room in the house as well as in my purse. I’ve also found this Kleenex plastic case to be quite useful, as it has a pocket on both sides when you open it up. I keep tissues in one side and then my license, a credit card, and some cash in the other side whenever I use a smaller clutch on a night out.

This insert has also been great as a way to provide structure to my tote bags. It’s amazing the difference it makes! Here’s a visual illustration:

The handbag organizer takes care of most of what I lug around on a daily basis. I also add my phone, my work keys, a book, and my wallet. And speaking of wallets, I’ve recently switched mine out after (re)discovering this fun ModCloth wallet — the one with the cats — after a recent closet run-through. (I still have my teal-and-black Nine West wallet, at left, for when I want to change them out again. It’s still a nice wallet.)

So there you have it! What’s in my bag AND what’s in my wallet. 😉

I’m a gal that likes to travel light. HOWEVER, in no way does that correlate to the size of my bag! 😉 I have a large Kate Spade that is a generous size. BUT, I only carry my wallet, Carmex, purse hook, tide stick, business cards, ipad, tissues, spare keys and my phone. 😉

You are impressively organized! My handbag looks like a train wreck! Crumpled receipts! About a hundred different chapsticks. And lots and lots of bits and bobs that probably have no business being in my bag! I love that little organizer though. Such a smart idea!
