Today’s outfit is an inspiration two-fer! First inspiration up is this week’s SIA painting, chosen by Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey. Here’s a detail of the “Hanoi Street” painting, by Vietnamese artist Bui Xuan Phai:
And the second inspiration is from this week’s “Inspiration Monday” look from Rachel Bilson.
The colors felt similar with both inspiration pieces, and last week, I mentioned that I was imagining earth tones and cozy knits, along with splashes of yellow and red. So that’s what I did with my interpretation!
I chose navy as the neutral foundation, to play off the blue edging of this wool zip-up sweater, but the standouts in this outfit for me are the earthy russet, goldenrod, and cognac colors. This was definitely a cozy outfit to wear! And it’s funny, I didn’t even think about how the overall effect looked a bit equestrian, with the silhouette of tall boots and slim pants. But that was the theme of the compliments I got the day that I wore this outfit. 🙂
Details: Wool zip-up sweater: Smart Set, PEI, old / Turtleneck: Walmart?, old / Navy ankle pants: Macy’s, gift-carded this summer / Cognac riding boots: Marc Fisher via Macy’s, this fall / Tan leather gloves: ?, old / Rose gold square earrings: Old Navy, gift-carded this fall
I did my hair in a variation of the pinwheel style, also seen here and here. I separated my hair into three sections low on my head, coiled each section around, wrapped each coil into a small bun, and then pinned with small clips. I like that it’s still a bit messy, with bits sticking out, but coiling each section FIRST before wrapping it around into a small bun helps secure each section. At least it helps secure my slippery hair. And this is a really easy style for when your hair is wet!
And baby, it IS cold outside! 😉
