I’ll post the round-up of my first pick as SIA co-host later tonight (or morning in your time zone) — I’m excited to see what y’all send my way! — but I’ll start the week off first with the details of what I chose, inspired by James Tissot’s mustachioed painting of Colonel Frederick Gustavus Barnaby:
Inspired by the bold red, black, and white color palette — as well as the lines of Barnaby’s uniform and long limbs — I mixed a bold pattern (my red-and-white striped sweater) with a more subtle pattern (my new black-and-white Pride & Prejudice scarf). I also wore my black riding boots over my newly thrifted black ankle pants for a similarly long-limbed effect.
Details: Striped sweater: Old Navy, gift-carded last fall / Black ankle pants: Banana Republic, thrifted at local resale shop last month / Black riding boots: Marc Fisher via Macy’s / Pride & Prejudice scarf: Nerd Alert Creations, gift from Sam, new / Black hooded overcoat: Maurice’s, old / Grey-and-black tote bag: Christian Siriano for Payless, last winter
And BONUS! A shot of my handsome husband, Sam, who looked super-sharp in his red sweater, charcoal button-down (which has a subtle dotted pattern), light grey blazer, and dark jeans. I think he also reflects the inspiration painting pretty well, even though it was unintentional on his part.
By the way, we took these photos while at the Dobbes Family Estate winery — we’re members of their wine club!
