Today I’m doubling up on style challenges: Audrey’s “One Piece, Many Ways” linkup over at Putting Me Together, as well as Gracey’s “Literary Stylings” challenge at Fashion for Giants. I’m so efficient. 😉 The piece I started with was my black & white chevron striped dress from Old Navy (the stripes meet in a chevron pattern on the sides).
This time, I paired it with my orange gingham shirt, tied at the waist, a pattern-mixing combo of gingham + stripes inspired by Lisa @ Respect the Shoes. The color combo of orange + black I chose due to my recent rereading of The Hunger Games trilogy. Thought not quite “the girl on fire” like Katniss, I do like the idea of taking orange + black out of Halloween-only territory. I think it helps that this orange gingham shirt is more of a coral orange, which also goes better with my paler skin tone.
Details: Chevron striped dress: Old Navy, gift-carded this spring / Orange gingham shirt: Old Navy, gift-carded last spring / Black strappy wedges: Banana Republic, old / Black dangly earrings: My paternal grandmother’s, vintage
And here are the other ways I’ve worn this striped dress so far, including pairing it with a red cargo jacket, a blue camp shirt, an olive cargo vest, and as a swim cover-up. Before now, I’ve usually paired the dress with solids, so it’s nice to add in a little more pattern-mixing!
