My first DIY post! 😀 When I saw this photo of Lena Dunham’s headband, my first thoughts were: (a) that’s super cute and (b) I could do something similar!
So here’s how I put together my own version of this embellished safety pin headband.
Choose a headband: I chose an old denim-covered headband to start. I never thought that its large bow looked that good on me, but I had been stumped about how to fix it. A plain headband will also do just fine, as well as a thin piece of ribbon or piece of leather cord.
Cut a piece of corresponding ribbon/cord/fabric: To secure the safety pin to this headband, I pulled off the bow and cut off a piece from the matching denim fabric, cutting the ends on an angle. I think a coordinating piece of cord or ribbon is key to this look and its subtlety.
Choose a safety pin accessory: A regular safety pin will work just fine, but I just happened to have this monogrammed safety pin charm that I pulled from an old Juicy Couture perfume bottle. The “J” monogram is perfect for me, but I had never figured out how to remix it — until now. 😉
Secure the safety pin to the headband: Thread the fabric through the safety pin and tie it around the headband and trim the ends as needed. And voilà, five minutes after I started the project, I was finished!
Such a simple project, such an adorable result:
