Geometric prints + my first-ever style video

I was inspired by Bri’s latest “Third Thursday Threads” style challenge, this month’s theme being geometric prints. I have worn these printed ankle pants frequently for work, as seen here, here, and here, but wanted to wear them in a more casual, low-key way for my birthday outing. And my birthday (on Monday) was also blissfully low-key, a day that included a massage, a trip to the zoo, and dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant, Kinara Thai Bistro.

I rolled these pants up to make cuffs (scroll down to the bottom for my first-ever style video on 3 different ways to cuff ankle pants!), and paired it with layered tops (including a new black one gift-carded from Old Navy!) and my standby black sandals.

I added in some more geometric shapes with these beautiful earrings handmade by a friend of mine in Abu Dhabi. And even the row of sparkles on my black sandals seem to add to the geometric print theme!

Earlier this week, I put together a post of my favorite jumping shots to celebrate my birthday. For this post, about what I wore on my birthday, I had to try another jumping shot. Which cracked me up. You’re welcome. 😉

Finally, my first-ever video for the style blog! It really was a spur-of-the-moment thing, as Sam and I were experimenting with our first-ever smartphones and their video capabilities. This video was shot on a Samsung Galaxy S4.

In this video, I demo 3 different ways to cuff ankle pants!

Thoughts after watching this video:

  • Shoot videos horizontally from now on for a clearer, wider picture
  • Make sure the background doesn’t include ginormous paint holes (this was shot on a stairwell outside a local high school in downtown Portland)
  • Photo-bombing purse!
  • I am obviously unable to talk without hand gestures!

So would y’all like more videos on the blog? Please leave a comment and let me know!

I know this sounds incredibly weird, but I always love hearing bloggers’ voices! I think it helps me add a new depth to reading their posts.

Wow, I can tell I’ve been on migraine and allergy meds this week! =)

    And, keep up the videos!

How about a hair tutorial with one of the braided looks? I know you’ve shown them with pictures and descriptions, but it might help to actually see it in motion. And, how to take a jump shot, obviously. 😉

Yeah, I was thinking about doing one with the rope braid, which is fast becoming a signature style! 😉 And one about taking a jump shot — so funny! It’s basically just me looking silly (what else is new?!) and Sam clicking as fast he can with the sports setting on the camera. 😀

Great pants. And love that you wore them for your birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I’m a huge fan of videos for tips like this – great learnings from this one to use next time!

Hi Jen! I am stopping by from your linkup to Bri’s blog! I absolutely love those pants – I, too, wore a geometric print pair of pants that are subtle like yours. I am new to printed pants and this was a great way for me to ease into the trend. I have the same top as you, too, in two colors and I totally love them! They look great on their own, but also under a cardigan or blazer 🙂

These are my first pair of printed pants, too! My husband was sooooo skeptical, but once on, he loved them, too. 🙂 I like these Old Navy tops, but I had trouble finding the right size because of the size of the arm holes. I like the curved hem, so they look nice on their own. But I’m looking forward to pairing it with skirts come fall. 🙂
