Embellishing the little white dress

Last week the LBD, this week the LWD. It’s time for “Inspiration Monday,” and this week’s sartorial inspiration is one of my all-time favorites. Click here to check out this look from Olivia Palermo, with a crisp white dress mixed with ornate, tribal-themed jewelry and high-heeled sandals. Delish.

I surprised myself by taking one look at that awesome inspiration photo and saying, “Oh, yeah, I can do that.” 😀 And what surprised me even more is that after I went the more embellished route, I realized how easily you could take the idea down a notch for a more simplified version (which I ended up wearing to go get coffee and a late afternoon snack). I couldn’t decide which I liked better, so I combined both looks for this post.

Which way would you go:  amped up or toned down?

BAM! Accessories! I layered three statement necklaces together, the top two Southwestern in style, and the bottom one from the UAE. And then I put flower earrings (last seen here) on my wedge sandals. Oh, yes, I did. 😀

(BTW, those flower earrings are not clip-ons, but the post backings were in the middle of the rope knot, so they didn’t hurt my feet.)

And roses!

Look #2:

For the simplified version, I just took off two of the statement necklaces, keeping the colorful, beaded one, and switched out the wedges for sandals. There’s still a bit of bling to the shoes, due to the gold bar accent, but much more casual (and comfy).

So there you have it:  a really easy take on the white dress + statement jewelry inspiration.

Thanks! I started out with the bottom two necklaces but thought it looked a little plain (!!), so I looked through my necklaces again and spied the turquoise-and-silver necklace and went hmmmm… 🙂 It’s not my usual style, for sure, but I really liked the effect.

Wow – what a fantastic take on the inspiration! I think the layered statement necklaces are gorgeous, but I’d probably go with the toned-down look -the white dress is the perfect canvas for your acesssories. 🙂
