Before we get to the style, I just wanted to let y’all know that I have been posting extra outtakes from each post this week on my Facebook page, and there will be super-sized outtakes post this Friday. Hilarity ensues! 😀
And I’m continuing the remixing theme, as I decided to participate in this month’s 7×7 remix challenge. The rules are pretty simple: 7 pieces of clothing (shoes and accessories not included) remixed 7 different ways for 7 different days. And it rhymes! ♥ All the details are here on Ma Nouvelle Mode.
Here are the 7 pieces that I narrowed down to remix:
Contrary to my usual m.o., I didn’t have all 7 pieces (or 7 outfits) in mind when I began this challenge. Shocker, I know! It wasn’t until Look #3 that it all clicked together. But the end result is quite reflective of my day-to-day style: bold, saturated colors (red ankle pants + blue cardigan); go-to basics (denim jacket + khaki shorts + denim skirt); and pattern-mixing (striped tank top + abstract print top).
- Denim skirt: Fall fashion swap
- Red ankle pants: Macy’s, gift-carded this winter
- Khaki shorts: Dockers via Kohl’s, old
- Denim jacket: Kohl’s, old
- Black and white striped tank top: Old Navy, last summer
- Abstract print top: Macy’s, gift-carded this winter
- Blue cardigan: August Silk via Macy’s, this winter
And here are the 7 ways I remixed these 7 pieces:
Remix Look #1:
I wore this outfit for another off-campus meeting with colleagues, one of those “I’m not working at my regular job, but I’m still working” kind of business casual situations. This outfit includes the first three pieces I started out with: the denim jacket, the red ankle pants, and the striped tank. Look familiar? It’s also part of what I packed for ALA! 😉 I remixed it this time with black flats and a black skinny belt, buttoning up my jacket this time for a more professional look.
Details: Black flats: Payless, last summer / Polka-dotted tote: Gift from my mom, last month / Black skinny belt: JCPenney, gift-carded this spring
Remix Look #2:
This is a more casual look, worn for an afternoon of shopping. It’s the foundation of Look #1, but remixed with a polka-dotted scarf (pattern-mixing alert!) and casual sandals.
Details: Black sandals: Payless, gift from my mom last summer / Polka-dotted scarf: Kohl’s, gift-carded last spring / Black tote bag: Nine West, birthday present last summer / Black hoop earrings: Christmas gift from in-laws, 2011
Remix Look #3:
This I wore for a girls’ day out — pizza, shopping, movie, and drinks. Comfort was key, and I added in a bit of fun with large hoop earrings and a side ponytail.
Details: Gold-and-cream sandals: Target, last summer / Hoop earrings: InPink, c/o giveaway last summer / Tote bag: Payless, this spring
Remix Look #4:
My husband is still not a big fan of the backwards cardigan, which I’ve also sported here. I like the look, even if I have to endure Sam’s eye rolling. A statement necklace helps make the look intentional.
I kind of love that both these hand poses seem to be saying, “Who, me? Why, yes, I AM wearing this cardigan backwards.” The front pose, above, is the sweet version, while the backwards view, below, is a bit on the saucy side. 😉
Details: Black strappy wedges: Banana Republic, old / Jet statement necklace: Florence Adams, c/o giveaway this spring / Black stud earrings: Birthday gift set from in-laws, last summer
Remix Look #5:
Details: Black wedges: Target, last spring / Gingham wire headband: ModCloth, came free with another purchase, old
Remix Look #6:
I wore this for a local book club meeting, so I dressed up the denim skirt a bit with the cardigan and belted the abstract print top. More green + blue together! ♥
Details: Pewter strappy wedges: Payless, old / Mint patent leather skinny belt: Target, this winter / Gold-and-pearl small hoop earrings: Amish-made, visitor’s center in Minnesota, old
Remix Look #7:
This just might be my favorite of all 7 looks. Casual + comfy + pattern-mixing = ♥. This striped tank top really was the MVP of this style challenge; it’s perfect for layering because of its longer length. The gold hoops, gold-bar sandals, bead bracelet, and ponytail add to the casual vibe.
Details: Gold-and-cream sandals: Target, last summer / Beaded bracelet: Made by a former student, old / Gold hoop earrings: Birthday gift set from in-laws, last summer
Hope you enjoyed all the remixing! Would you join in a challenge like this? Which look is your favorite? Please leave a comment and let me know.
