What I got with gift cards (February 2013)

As outlined in my 2013 shopping update post, I have purchased my 10 items for the year, a goal that I wrapped up last month. Any more shopping I do for the rest of the year will be done with gift cards — and I’m sticking to that! (Keeping a style blog is also helping keep me honest and on track, I gotta admit πŸ˜‰ Thank you, readers!)

This month, I converted some credit card points into two $25 gift cards, one for Macy’s and the other for Land’s End. After finally bouncing back from recent cold and sinus issues, my husband and I set out for a little shopping trip, armed with these gift cards. Of course we kept an eye out for sales.

I didn’t have much of a plan, to be honest. Shocking, I know, considering how usually a list is my armor of choice. πŸ˜‰ I had a vague notion of stripes — which didn’t happen, but IΒ almost picked up this awesome top, but it was ultimately too expensive at the store — but I felt good about picking up more pattern with the polka-dotted skirt.

And I have been talking about colored pants for awhile now, so much so that Sam finally acquiesced to my trying on these pants with the utterance, “Just to get it out of your system, go ahead.” But my sweetie was indeed so sweet in admitting that they looked AWESOME when I came out of the dressing room.

I am soooooo loving this line of Style&co. tummy-control line of trousers. They are seriously flattering (on any body shape, IMHO) and so comfortable, that I am already planning on more Macy’s gift cards to get more styles from this line. Like these bermuda shorts. And this pair of classic, yet modern, khaki trousers. And these cuffed capris. I’ll keep y’all posted!

And nope, I’m not getting paid or reimbursed for this post by Macy’s or Land’s End. I’m just thrilled with these purchases and want to share my personal shopping experiences with y’all. πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚ I am trying to cut back on the shopping too. Since I started the blog I have spent waaaaaay too much on clothing. I have enough items in my closet that, combined with a few updated pieced here-and-there, are more than sufficient to get me through my daily life! I often think blogging has put a lot of additional pressure on me to shop more and showcase newer items. Other times I just think I use blogging as an excuse to justify excessive shopping (I have a very weak reserve when it comes to clothes). That being said, the blogs I love most are those that constantly re-invent new ways to wear the same pieces over and over again – something that I hope to achieve eventually… It’s just going to take a lot of will power!

I totally understand about that added pressure to showcase “new” or “trendy” items. It’s not something I’ve really discussed on my blog overtly, but you’ve definitely picked up on some undercurrents behind these new shopping with gift card posts.

But I have to admit, seeing how you’ve remixed and highlighted your fave ankle pants has helped inspire me to even try them on! I had assumed for many years that all ankle pants would look hideous on me (residual body issues, I know, I know) and now I have two pairs! So sometimes, the inspiration from other style blogs can help break one out of one’s shell and try new things. It’s all a balance, right?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! πŸ™‚

You did great – I think sticking to gift cards for the rest of the year is a noble venture for sure. I know I couldn’t do it! I’ll have to check out those pants since you seem to love them!

Thanks, Fran! Definitely, I would recommend trying out this line of pants in person and see how they fit and if they’re right for you. I was first attracted to all the colors — and slightly different styles — and then I saw the tags with the line “tummy control” and literally clapped out loud in the store. Anything that helps take care of that body issue is golden in my book.

Both of those pieces are really cute! I think the polka dot skirt is really nice and I will have to take a look at those pants once my shopping hiatus is done at the end of March. Thanks for sharing!
