There’s no color like emerald

This week’s “Friday’s Fancies” theme is all about emerald, the Pantone color of the year. BTW, don’t you love how it’s become a pattern that I post a Friday-themed post on Saturdays? That’s the way it rolls, y’all. And as you can see below, I had a lot of fun with this week’s challenge!

Stream-of-consciousness style, here were my thoughts about emerald:

Emerald? Emerald. What do I think about when I think about emerald? The Emerald City. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. We’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz. Toto. Red shoes. Tap three times. No, focus on emerald. Emerald. Oz. That new movie’s coming out this year. Wonder if it will be any good. Emerald.

So I put together this Polyvore inspiration board with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in my head. And then started thinking about putting together a modern-day Dorothy outfit. What would Dorothy wear today?

This dress — in two slightly different shades of green — reminded me of Dorothy’s pinafore dress with the pleating in the front and the overall shape. I mixed in a grown-up version of the beribboned braids with this lush green headband. Instead of a wicker picnic basket, present-day Dorothy carries a rattan clutch. And instead of sequined red high heels (so impractical, y’all), she finishes off the look with sparkly bronze flats. So much easier to walk along a yellow brick road in flats. 😉

Happy weekend!
