2012 style retrospective

A new year is exciting, but also always a bit bittersweet for me. It’s like I’m on some kind of hill, looking at the paths both beyond and behind me. And this past year, 2012, was an up-and-down journey, to be sure, with a lot of firsts and major life events (first home, moving, new full-time job, new blog). Several of the highs came through this venture, as I continue to find my joy and rhythm in blogging. That’s code for more experimentation ahead! 😉

Here’s to you, 2012.

Braids and buns and growing pains

Growing out my hair has been a near-constant battle between patience and oh-my-goodness-I-want-to-chop-it-all-off-again fever. Having fun trying new hairstyles and braids has helped. As has gazing at pictures of Kate Middleton and her gorgeous hair.

My go-to styles this past year have been variations of the Gibson tuck and the rope braid, both of which are featured in my most popular post to date, Summer hair styles.

Blogger poses: “The Laugh” and the “Cross Your Legs” poses — all the better when I combined them! 😉

Color:  Although black was the single most-tagged color, blue and its variations (navy, teal, light blue, etc.) collectively garnered the most tags. I also often combined blue and black together:

Pattern:  Stripes, stripes, stripes (of course).

Librarian for Life + Style | Olive stripes

Accessory:  The scarf, which I utilized sometimes as a headband, sometimes as a belt, and sometimes (gasp!) just as a scarf.

Librarian for Life + Style | Urban safari

Shoe:  Although I expounded on my shoe love for wedges, flats collected the most tags. Obviously, it’s time for another “shoe love” post! 😉

Most popular

The ‘Mad Men’-Inspired Gifts inspiration board — much to my surprise, admittedly — turned out to be the most popular of my Polyvore posts.

I’ve mentioned how I loved being inspired by other style bloggers — it’s true! I tagged over 50 style inspiration posts. This look, below, inspired by the chic Laura @ Laura Wears was my highest-rated inspiration look — landing juuuust outside the top 6 most popular posts seen here.

This look received the most views:

And this post, featuring the same blue gingham shirt seen above (!), collected the most comments:

What’s next?

I’m not sure where the next year will take me, but I sure am enjoying the journey. And deciding what clothes to wear on the way. 😉 See y’all next year!
