BBQ and work don’t mix. Or do they?

Today’s post is a little different… I wanted to participate The Tiny Heart‘s first-ever “What to Wear?” link up, and the first event/occasion challenge was to put together an outfit for a backyard barbecue. Sounds great on a Thursday workday! 😉 So I’m combining a what to wear kind of post with what I actually wore.

First up is my Polyvore inspiration board:

Librarian for Life + Style | What to Wear: Backyard BBQ collage

My idea for a barbecue outfit was to focus on basics, ones with a pretty, feminine vibe, with simple and classic gold earrings and sandals.

But it’s also Thursday, and a work day for me, one that includes a conference. So I decided to convert the backyard barbecue look into a more work-appropriate version.

When? July 12, 2012 (7-12-12!)

What for? Library conference and meetings. Following my inspiration board lead, I focused on pairing a bright top with a neutral bottom, finishing it off with gold accessories. I also carried a bronze shawl with me in case it got cold inside the venue (it did). I did my hair in a messy side bun, also seen here.

What do you think? Are you heading out for some barbecue now? 🙂

Details?

  • Tan skirt:  Bealls? years ago
  • Embroidered tunic:  Dana Buchman collection for Kohls, 2009?
  • Embellished sandals:  Boutique store in Amsterdam, 2010 trip
  • Wide belt:  Kohls years ago

I love how you included both a polyvore board casual look AND a work appropriate BBQ look! Both are so cute! Thanks SO much for participating in the link up, Jen 🙂
