Continuing in the series of summer staples (the official start of summer is almost here!), next up is the maxi dress (click here for the white dress and here for mix-and-match swimwear). The best thing about maxi dresses? They’re so comfortable! Also, there are so many choices of maxi dresses. You can go high-impact with a graphic or floral print, or low-key with stripes or solid colors.
So here’s my Polyvore inspiration board, with some ideas for how to take a maxidress from day to night.
The main accessories are similar in both versions: a cover-up, flat shoes, and earrings. A maxi dress with a few special details — like the black piping and neckline of this one — makes it easier to transition into a night out.
And here are my real-life interpretations, using similar items from my own wardrobe:
Maxidress – Day
More pink! 🙂 I added a classic denim jacket, a dark pink stretchy belt, and grey ballet flats. I also folded down the neckline of this halter-tie maxi dress to make it more casual (compare with the night version below).
A simple ponytail and sunglasses complete this easy day look.
Maxidress – Night
I dressed up this halter-neck maxi dress with a silver-and-white metallic shawl, sparkly flat sandals, and silver drop earrings. You can see the details of the dress, especially the neckline with the satin ribbon and bow tie, better in this shot.
A low side bun is my go-to fix for an easy, elegant hairstyle
I bought this floral maxi dress overseas in the UAE a few years ago for a summer wedding.
